Bordeaux Colorectal Institute aims to the greatest number of patients the accessibility to the latest therapeutic and technological innovations through participation in clinical studies. Clinical research at the Bordeaux Colorectal Institute aims to improve the quality of care for patients with colorectal diseases.
The main research topics we wish to develop are:
- Enhanced Surgical Techniques
- Early post-operative patient rehabilitation
- Personalization of therapeutic strategy and surgical treatment
- Reduction of functional sequelae after surgery
- The research team, whether doctors, research assistants or nurse, has extensive experience in the field of colorectal clinical research.
The surgeons are very involved in the French group of colorectal surgeons (GRECCAR, Groupe de REcherChe sur le CAncer du Rectum), which has produced numerous high-level scientific publications with multiple participations in national and international congresses.
Research process
- Participate in a research protocol
-
The surgeon, at the end of the clinic or during your hospitalization, may suggest you to participate in a research protocol, thought this research protocol will have access to now medical device, new surgical techniques, or new personalized therapeutic strategies, etc.
After having explained to you the objective of the research, its progress, the benefits, the risks as well as your rights, he will give you an information note to read. You have time to reflect to make your decision. This decision will not affect the quality of future care.
If you agree to participate, and after asking all the questions to your surgeon, your agreement will be requested with the signing of a consent.
You will then meet a research associate (CRA) who will be there to guide you, ensure that the protocol runs smoothly and coordinate your care pathway. She will inform you of your next follow-up appointments, and ensure the deadlines for the examinations, the safety of the study, the regulations, will make the link between your various specialist doctors, and will collect the medical data useful within the framework of the research.
